Introduction and Background

Waruhiu K’Owade & Ng’ang’a Advocates was established in 1965 and registered as a Partnership under the Laws of Kenya. It carried on business under the business name of Waruhiu & Muite Advocates until 1998 when it changed to its current name Waruhiu K'Owade & Ng'ang'a Advocates. The following are the various Departments make up the firm;

This department handles all aspects of pre-litigation legal business including. - Incorporation of limited liability companies and other business associations. - Restructuring of companies, mergers and acquisitions, insolvency law and receiverships. - Acting for banks and other financial institutions in creation of mortgages, debentures, and other forms of debt instruments to secure advances made to their customers. - Advising clients on all aspects of Corporate Law. - Advising clients in the energy sector including oil and gas sector. - Acting for mortgage companies in creation of mortga- -ges to secure housing mortgage loans. - Acting for the clients in transfer and purchase of land. - General Conveyancing.

This Department handles all aspects of litigation with particular emphasis on civil litigation as well as Arbitration. Most of the Firm's litigation is before the High Court of Kenya and the Kenya Court of Appeal. Litigation and Arbitration matters handled by the rm includes: - Banking and finance litigation and Arbitration. - Constitutional Law and judicial review. - Insolvency law and receiverships litigation and Arbitration. - Acting for Insurance Companies in settlement of material damage, personal injury and fatal accident claims. - Enforcement of recovery of civil debts Arbitration. - Family Law (divorce, adoption and Probate and Administr ation) litigation and Arbitration. - Environment and Land matters litigation and Arbitration. - Employment Law and Labour laws litigation and Arbitration. - Debt Collection litigation and Arbitration. - Health and Safety Laws. - Copy Right Law litigation and Arbitration.

A Finance and Administration Manager heads the Department. This department deals with Financial and Administrative matters of the Firm. The Finance and Administration Manager maintains the Firm's accounting systems, and looks after the Firm's clients and ofce accounts. The Finance and Administration Manager oversees the general ofce administration of the Firm and is also in charge of all paralegal and support staff. The Finance and Administration Manager reports directly to the Partners. The Finance and Administration Manager day-to-day administration of the Firm enables the Partners to devote more time to professional work and client relation.

The Firm has a sizeable legal library that covers a vast number of law subjects. We also have an efcient internet service which enables easy research and fast communication with our clients. A Librarian Heads our Library which is well equipped with all the necessary local and international Laws books relevant to our law practice, this caters for the needs of our different clients.

It is the policy of the firm to prohibit and actively prevent money laundering and any activity that facilitates money laundering by complying and implementing the provisions of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-money Laundering (Amendment) Act, 2022. Our firm is dedicated in ensuring that we conduct due diligence our client’s transactions to avoid anti-money laundering transactions.

The current Advocates Remuneration Order in force guides it but we are open to consideration of a client’s special circumstances.
